The announcement accompanies news that Consensus Networks has been awarded a 50K grant from the U.S. Department of Defense
Chicago – January 28, 2020 – Factom Protocol, the leading enterprise grade platform for efficiently building blockchain solutions, has announced that HealthNet, a population health data sharing platform, will launch this spring on the Factom blockchain.
Developed by Consensus Networks, an Authority Node Operator (ANO) on the Factom network, HealthNet is a secure data sharing platform that aims to improve health outcomes for patients and healthcare workers alike. Clients will be able to exchange sensitive health information in a regulatory compliant manner by leveraging the power of the Factom blockchain and Consensus Networks’ advanced cryptographic methods. Initial use cases for HealthNet include prescription drug tracking, insurance claim tracking, and care coordination between providers for patients suffering from chronic disease.
Nathan Miller, CEO of Consensus Networks and current Principal Investigator of the HealthNet project, said, “Today, global healthcare systems are synonymous with paperwork, documentation, and complication, and the management of healthcare records, in particular the area of health data sharing, has long been due an overhaul. Managing data on decentralized platforms has the potential to transform health services as we know them. We have chosen to deploy HealthNet on the Factom Protocol because of its unique characteristics including high throughput, fixed low costs, and secure data entry, making integration with existing enterprise systems easy and effective.”
The Factom Protocol is an enterprise grade blockchain utilized by the U.S Department of Homeland Security, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other leading enterprises. Greg Forst, Director of Marketing at Factom Protocol said, “Consensus Networks’ decision to utilize the Factom Protocol is yet another testament to the Factom Protocol as a prime foundation for the building of a blockchain ecosystem. Amongst the use cases now building on the Factom Protocol are solutions in areas including security, energy, healthcare, and identity management.”
HealthNet was developed internally at Consensus Networks through SBIR Phase I funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with the Phase II funding renewal process already ongoing.
The launch of Consensus Networks’ HealthNet platform on the Factom Protocol is accompanied by news that Consensus Networks has been awarded a $50,000 USD grant from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The U.S. Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract, which has been distributed through AFWERX and the Air Force Research Lab, will be used to explore the use of blockchain and cryptographic solutions to secure software chains of custody within the U.S. Air Force. The grant will also be used to enhance the DoD’s DevSecOps capabilities and augment their cyber-security efforts.
