Any form of censorship should not be tolerated in this day and age. That is particularly true where online censorship is concerned. For some reason, it appears the Lightning Network page in Wikipedia may be deleted fairly soon.
Understanding how Wikipedia Works
Most people in the world rely on services such as Wikipedia to find relevant information pertaining to certain topics. Wikipedia is, after all, often referred to as the world’s encyclopedia. It contains a ton of information on a wide range of topics, including cryptocurrencies and blockchain scaling solutions.
All of the information found on this platform is provided and maintained by voluntary contributors. Without the wisdom of the crowd – and their desire to spread this information – Wikipedia would have never become such a vat of knowledge.
When the contributors try to have certain pages deleted because they dislike a specific topic, however, things are not looking great. It should never be up to Wikipedia contributors to determine what people should or shouldn’t be able to read now or in the future. Their personal bias should never influence the service they are providing to the world.
The Lightning Network “Incident”
This bias toward the Lightning Network has become apparent in recent days. Some comments by Wikipedia contributors indicate they want to see this page deleted altogether, for a wide variety of reasons. One contributor claims how he would rather “get rid of the whole press coverage of cryptocurrency” and the linking of such articles associated with this particular topic.
He is also not a fan of the default explanation offered to explain how the Lightning Network works. This same contributor, going by the name of Smallbones, also claims LN is “impossible” and “pulls wool over people’s eyes by a few crooks”. Some very unsavory comments, albeit having an opinion on something is never wrong. The opinion itself, however, is a matter of debate.
Smallbones then goes on to claim how all cryptocurrency content on Wikipedia needs to be condensed. He proposes narrowing everything down into three mega articles. In the opinion of this contributor, that would be “better for everybody involved”, although he never explains how that would be an improvement.
Smallbones is on a Crusade
Those who keep tabs on Wikipedia content related to Bitcoin may have come across the name Smallbones before. He is one of the people who tried to revise the main Bitcoin page on the platform a while ago, albeit it was eventually undone. In his revision, Smallbones labels Bitcoin as “a collapsed economic bubble as the price fell by 82% in the year ending December 2018”.

For all intents and purposes, this appears to be one individual who genuinely dislikes cryptocurrencies in general. Who the person really is, or why this crusade even began, remains a mystery to the entire world. It appears the contributor simply wants to censor any information associated with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as well as the associated technologies.
